Who Knows about Selenophilia?

#Puzzles, Moons and Eclipses

What comes to mind when I think about the month of October is usually full moons and cooler nights.  Hence the big word “Selenophilia“, a noun which means loving the moon and finding it soothingly captivating (see my Twitter post regarding this).  October is commonly associated with the season of Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere, and Spring in the Southern Hemisphere.  In the Western world, October is also commonly associated with Halloween.  Something that only happens rarely is what we call a blood moon, due to the reddish color seen on a super moon during a lunar eclipse.  Recently many of us witnessed this blood moon in our night sky and it was quite spectacular to see.

This theme of the month, being moons and eclipses, is what I have based the challenging puzzle of the month on.  In combination with another of my favorite subjects – symbols, I have created this challenging picapix for you, titled “Symbol Eclipse”.  Have fun with it!

Sincerely,

Diane Baher

How to Play

Where do I start? Begin by choosing two color pencil crayons, erasable ones are best, and designate the darker shade for the puzzle picture. The lighter shade is basically going to be the background and is still very important to solving the puzzle. Starting with an empty grid, and numbers at the top of columns and left end of rows, you work your way through the puzzle by doing what is most logical or obvious, i.e. the biggest numbers.
