Brain Training – Trend or Not?

There seems to be a lot of hype these days with regard to brain training and brain fitness.  It is certainly worth thinking about.  Although there may be limits to the scientific support for the concept, there is strong evidence that higher levels of mental and physical activity may be associated with reduced risks of age-related dementia and mental decline.  Regardless of all the scientific and non-scientific claims out there, we all personally know what makes us happy and what we consider to be fun, and what we feel is time well spent.  And if this happens to be a thinking or cognitive activity, of course it will be good for us, as opposed to doing nothing and being bored with an idle mind.  When I first became hooked on picapix puzzles, I just couldn’t get enough of them.  And I am sure that my brain was creating neurons and new connections, as I will admit to feeling like I was on Cloud 9.  I have used this phrase before, “Use it or lose it” with reference to our brains.  I wish to add another phrase, “If it feels good, do it.”  Again this is referring to the puzzles.

May you enjoy the month of May’s challenging puzzle as much as I enjoyed creating it!  It is free puzzle #11 called “Train for Gold”.  Please help me spread the word by sharing my puzzles with others.  If they are beginners, then it would be best if they started with the simpler ones found at www.Learnpicapix.com .  Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Diane Baher

How to Play

Where do I start? Begin by choosing two color pencil crayons, erasable ones are best, and designate the darker shade for the puzzle picture. The lighter shade is basically going to be the background and is still very important to solving the puzzle. Starting with an empty grid, and numbers at the top of columns and left end of rows, you work your way through the puzzle by doing what is most logical or obvious, i.e. the biggest numbers.
