New Year New Book

January 8, 2015

During the cold winter months and especially during the Christmas Season, I am drawn to the activity of solving jigsaw puzzles.  In the last few weeks, my daughter and I have completed six 1000-piece jigsaws.  Once we start one we can’t seem to stop until it is done.  It’s a good thing that they provide a good brain activity, as I have given my picapix practice a break.  But now as I look at my New Year’s list of important things that I wish to accomplish, I see that I have set a goal to publish my third book of picapix puzzles.  I have already created enough puzzles to go ahead with this task, so for the next couple of weeks I will be formatting files in preparation, and coming up with a new design for the book cover.  There will be a larger concentration of the 20 x 20 grid-size puzzles, as my desire for this book is to be suitable for children and novice or beginner logic puzzlers.  Of course there will still be some larger and more challenging ones at the back of the book to suit the more experienced puzzlers.

The free challenging picapix puzzle for the month of January is called “Furry Bandit“.  I hope you will enjoy the whimsical image you restore upon solving.  Again I would like to ask of you to share this newsletter with anybody you feel would appreciate learning picapix.  And if you’ve already solved every puzzle on my site, follow me on Twitter or my Facebook page, where you can keep up with other puzzles that are found in different publications.  Feel free to contact me if you have any comments.  I would love to hear from you!

Sincerely,

Diane Baher

How to Play

Where do I start? Begin by choosing two color pencil crayons, erasable ones are best, and designate the darker shade for the puzzle picture. The lighter shade is basically going to be the background and is still very important to solving the puzzle. Starting with an empty grid, and numbers at the top of columns and left end of rows, you work your way through the puzzle by doing what is most logical or obvious, i.e. the biggest numbers.
